Energy Australia says it is making it easier for customers to switch their hot water systems from electric to gas or solar powered units or heat pump.
The company has started a campaign to encourage people to convert their hot water systems, in a bid to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Paul Myors from Energy Australia says hot water is the biggest energy user in the average home.
“Most of our hot water systems are electric and that’s actually the most greenhouse intensive way to heat water,” he said.
“In fact when you have a hot shower it’s the equivalent of running 200 televisions all at once.
“So for most residential homes switching to a more environmentally friendly system like gas, solar or heat pump is the single most effective thing you can do.”
