O calor \u00e9 extra\u00eddo de tubos dispostos horizontalmente ou verticalmente no solo (serpentinas subterr\u00e2neas horizontais\/verticais), podendo ser utilizados tanto sistemas de circula\u00e7\u00e3o direta como de salmoura. A capacidade t\u00e9rmica do solo varia consoante o n\u00edvel de humidade e as anomalias clim\u00e1ticas. Devido \u00e0 recupera\u00e7\u00e3o de calor do solo, a temperatura do solo diminuir\u00e1 durante o per\u00edodo de aquecimento. Nas regi\u00f5es frias do hemisf\u00e9rio sul, a maior parte da energia \u00e9 armazenada como calor latente quando o solo congela.
