Den stasjon\u00e6re ytelsen til en elektrisk kompresjonsvarmepumpe ved et gitt sett med temperaturforhold kalles ytelseskoeffisienten (COP). Den defineres som forholdet mellom varmen som leveres av varmepumpen og str\u00f8mmen som tilf\u00f8res kompressoren. <p><br><p>For motordrevne og termisk drevne varmepumper angis ytelsen ved hjelp av prim\u00e6renergiforholdet (PER). Den tilf\u00f8rte energien er da den h\u00f8yere oppvarmingsverdien (HHV) til det tilf\u00f8rte drivstoffet. For elektrisk drevne varmepumper kan PER ogs\u00e5 defineres ved \u00e5 multiplisere COP med virkningsgraden for kraftproduksjonen. <p><br>COP eller PER for en varmepumpe er n\u00e6rt knyttet til temperaturl\u00f8ftet, dvs. forskjellen mellom varmekildens temperatur og varmepumpens utgangstemperatur.
