Elle peut extraire la chaleur de sources naturelles telles que l'air ambiant, les eaux souterraines, le sol ou m\u00eame la chaleur r\u00e9siduelle, puis transformer cette chaleur \u00e0 basse temp\u00e9rature en chaleur \u00e0 haute temp\u00e9rature utilisable pour le chauffage r\u00e9sidentiel et commercial, l'eau chaude sanitaire et le refroidissement des locaux.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Fonctionnant selon le cycle de r\u00e9frig\u00e9ration invers\u00e9, une pompe \u00e0 chaleur utilise une faible quantit\u00e9 d'\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 pour faire fonctionner son compresseur, son ventilateur et son syst\u00e8me de circulation. Le fluide frigorig\u00e8ne qu'elle contient absorbe la chaleur \u00e0 l'ext\u00e9rieur, la comprime pour en augmenter la temp\u00e9rature, puis la rejette \u00e0 l'int\u00e9rieur. En mode refroidissement, le processus s'inverse pour \u00e9vacuer la chaleur des b\u00e2timents.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Par rapport aux radiateurs \u00e9lectriques, aux chaudi\u00e8res \u00e0 gaz et aux climatiseurs traditionnels, les pompes \u00e0 chaleur offrent un rendement \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique bien sup\u00e9rieur. En g\u00e9n\u00e9ral, chaque kilowatt d'\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 consomm\u00e9 permet de produire entre 3 et 5 kilowatts d'\u00e9nergie thermique, ce qui r\u00e9duit consid\u00e9rablement la consommation d'\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 et les co\u00fbts d'exploitation.
